Printer settings
  • Use Actual Size / 100% scaling. Turn off Fit to Page.
  • Test on plain paper first before using label stock.
  • If your printer has a Labels / Heavyweight paper option, enable it.
  • Do not use Fit to Page for Avery sheets — it will misalign the grid.
  • This print is designed for Avery 5164 / 8164 sheets.
  • Browser print dialogs vary because printers are tiny chaos machines.

Frequently asked questions

What is the difference between label summary and inventory notes?

The label summary is printed on the box label. The inventory notes are stored in the table and CSV only. Keep basic descriptions on the label and detailed contents (serial numbers, specific models) in the notes.

Does this upload my inventory?

No. Everything stays in your browser unless you export a CSV. No server uploads, no accounts, no data sent anywhere.

Can I restore my boxes later?

Yes. Your inventory is saved automatically in this browser (localStorage). When you return, you will see a prompt to restore your draft. You can also export CSV as a portable backup and re-import it anytime.

Can I print labels without printing every box?

Yes. Each box has a checkbox to include or exclude it from print. Excluded boxes are dimmed and skipped when printing. CSV export includes all rows regardless of print selection.

Why export CSV?

CSV is a plain-text format that works in any spreadsheet app. Export your inventory as a backup, edit it in Excel or Google Sheets, and re-import it later. No proprietary lock-in.

Should I put valuables on the outside label?

No. Keep expensive or sensitive details in the private inventory notes. The label summary should describe contents generically (e.g. “Books” not “First edition signed copies”). Movers can read labels; future-you can read the inventory.

What paper or label size should I use?

Avery 5164 / 8164 sheets work best (2 columns x 3 rows, 4 x 3.333 in each). Plain paper layouts are also available for taping onto boxes.

Why do I need to print at Actual Size / 100%?

Browser print dialogs often default to Fit to Page or Shrink to Fit, which scales the content. For Avery label sheets, the grid must print at exact size so the labels align with the stock. Always select Actual Size or 100% in your print dialog.
